The overall aim of this project is to contribute to the ambitions of the Dutch Topsector Chemistry and the Association of the Paint and Printing Ink Industry, aiming at a 30- 50% reduction of the use of non-fossil resources by 2030.

This objective will be pursued by further developing biobased routes for the biotechnological production of itaconic acid from sugars and methacrylic acid based upon itaconic acid, and to demonstrate that (co)polymers based upon biobased itaconic acid and biobased methacrylic acid can result into valuable polymers and materials.
